The Content of Fallout Strontium-90 in Korean Foetal Bone


Abstract
For the calculation of the radio activity of fallout Strontium-g0 in human foetal bone in the Seoul area, 10 cages of foetus which had died at the foetal age of 8, 9 or 10 months during Oct. Dec. in 1976 were collected.
Each of the collected stillborn bodies was cremated and the bone ash obtained was prepared chemically using the method of radiochemical analysis reported by the W. H. O. /F. A. O. expert committee.
After Yttrium-90 was yielded from the purified OOSr and reached its decay equilibrium, it was separated from the SOSr and the radioactivity was counted immediately by Low background p counter.
The counted C. P. M. was corrected to D. P. M. by means of applying background C. P. M., time correction, chemical recovery rate and counter efficiency, and finally the D. P.M. value was calculated in pCiOOSr/g-Ca.
The obtained mean value of "Sr activity in foetal bones revealed 2.42 pCi/g-Ca, and there seemed to be no significant tendency in variation of OOSr level among the 3 foetal age groups.
